Oracle provides four approval controls: Positive Quantity Tolerance Percentage, Negative Quantity Tolerance Percentage, Positive Adjustment Value Tolerance, and Negative Adjustment Value Tolerance. The quantity fields limit the positive or negative percentage difference between the actual count quantity and the tracked on-hand quantity. The value fields limit the total value of a positive or negative cycle count adjustment. Positive and negative settings are separate because an overage and a shortage do not have to share the same limit.
Start with the quantity difference: count quantity minus application on-hand quantity. A result above zero is a positive adjustment; a result below zero is negative. The quantity variance percentage compares that difference with the application on-hand quantity. The adjustment value applies the item's cost to the adjustment quantity, preserving its positive or negative direction. Oracle then compares the positive result with the positive percentage and value limits, or the negative result with the corresponding negative limits.
